Now that America is in the midst of this "Credit Crunch" in 2009, "650 is the new 550" and "700 is the new 600" as far as credit scores go. With a score under 600 to 650, it almost impossible to get a car loan, mortgage, or descent credit card these days. Your credit report can contain unwanted or untrue items... mistakes made by creditors or the credit reporting agencies. These items can bring down your overall credit score drastically.
The law is on your side. You can take steps on your own behalf to get bad credit, late payments, charge-offs, defaults, etc. removed from your credit report. You can dispute unwanted/untrue items on your credit reports with the three main credit agencies - TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. One you register a dispute, the clock starts ticking. The reporting agency has 30 days at that point to verify the item or they must remove it. That's the Law.

Now is the time to remove bad credit from your credit report and increase your credit score. Do not be complacent or you will be left behind in this new credit reality. If you are worried about your credit score, then you probably need to raise it.
